Manu Bhaker Indian professional shooter
Indian shooter Manu Bhaker made history last month, becoming the first athlete from Independent India to win multiple medals in a single edition of the Olympic Games. The 22-year-old secured bronze in both the women’s 10-metre air pistol event and the 10-metre air pistol mixed team events at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Despite her impressive achievements, Manu recently found herself the target of online trolls for carrying her Olympic medals to public events. However, the young athlete delivered a fiery response to her critics.
In an interview with the Times of India, when asked about the negative comments, Manu confidently replied, “I will, yeah! Why will I not?” She explained that she brings her medals to events because the organizers often request it.
“People love to see the medal, which is why I carry it with me in case anyone asks. Organizers specifically request me to bring it along, and during these events, many pictures are taken,” the double Olympic medallist shared.
Manu emphasized that her medals symbolize India’s achievement. In a recent post on X, she wrote, “The two bronze medals I won at the Paris 2024 Olympics belong to India. Whenever I am invited to an event and asked to show these medals, I do it with pride. This is my way of sharing my beautiful journey.”
Last week, Manu was a guest at the NDTV Yuva Conclave, where she reflected on her journey to the Paris 2024 Olympics and the overwhelming support she has received since winning the medals.
When asked if she would trade her life with anyone else, Manu firmly stated, “Honestly, I wouldn’t like to switch my life with anybody at all. Even during tough times, I wouldn’t want to do that.”
The young shooter also expressed her unwavering commitment to her sport. “Shooting is the love of my life, and I want to continue shooting for as long as possible, winning as many medals for India as I can. I enjoy dressing up and other activities, but shooting remains my priority,” she said.
During the interaction, Manu also opened up about how she handles her emotions, admitting that she does experience anger. “I get angry too, but I’ve learned to channel that anger into something positive. It’s really important for a sportsperson to do that,” she explained.
Manu Bhaker continues to prove not only her talent in sports but also her strength in rising above criticism, showing her determination to make India proud on the global stage.
