IIT Madras (The Indian Institute of Technology Madras)

Foundation: Established with technical and financial assistance from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, IIT Madras was the third IIT to be established in India.

IIT Madras Admission Process

Undergraduate Programs (B.Tech)

Eligibility:

Candidates must have completed their 10+2 education with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects.
They must appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Qualified candidates from JEE Main need to appear for JEE Advanced.

Entrance Exam:

JEE Main: Conducted twice a year, typically in January and April. Candidates need to qualify this to be eligible for JEE Advanced.
JEE Advanced: Conducted once a year, usually in May. This exam is critical for securing admission to IITs.

Counseling and Seat Allocation:

Candidates who qualify JEE Advanced participate in the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counseling process.
Based on their JEE Advanced rank, preference of courses, and availability of seats, candidates are allocated seats in IIT Madras.

Rank Required

For B.Tech Programs

The rank required for admission to IIT Madras varies every year based on factors like the number of applicants, difficulty level of JEE Advanced, and seat availability.
Generally, a rank within the top 500 in JEE Advanced can secure a seat in popular branches like Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.
For other branches, ranks can extend up to 3000 or beyond, but it varies annually.
